WOMEN FOR LIFE - Regina José GALINDO, Claudia LOSI.

Commissaires / Curators:: Lucy + Jorge ORTA La Maréchalerie, centre d’art contemporain de l’énsa-v et Les Moulins, centre de recherche et de production artistique fondé par Lucy + Jorge Orta, associent leur programme d’exposition et de résidence respectif, et présentent le projet Women for Life. Transdisciplinaire, Women for Life se veut une expérience collective qui interroge nos identités, leurs connections, et leurs places dans le monde. Les artistes Regina José GALINDO et Claudia LOSI, invitées par Lucy + Jorge ORTA en résidence aux Moulins cette année, présentent à La Maréchalerie une pratique artistique radicale qui témoigne de leurs engagements environnementaux, politiques et sociaux. L’exposition Women for Life conçue comme un « work in progress », rassemble des ½uvres fortes réalisées lors de cette résidence, qui inscrivent nos vies dans le soutenable. L’artiste Regina José GALINDO (née en 1974 au Guatemala) s’apparente au mouvement du body art. Ses ½uvres prennent principalement la forme de performances. Utilisant la vidéo, l’artiste se met en scène et se mutile devant l’½il troublé du spectateur. En expérimentant ces blessures et la souffrance, Régina José GALINDO lie fondamentalement l’art et la vie et transforme son corps en objet d’art. Ainsi elle ne se contente pas d’être le témoin et prends part de manière inhérente à une époque et à l’Histoire de son pays. L’art de Regina José GALINDO est certes violent, mais vivant. Ses ½uvres luttent désespérément contre la négation de l’être humain, sa domination et le sadisme qu’il subit au quotidien, tout particulièrement pour les femmes. Un acte de résistance par la poésie. L’art de Claudia LOSI touche à des domaines aussi variés que la science, la nature et la littérature. Cette artiste italienne (née en 1971) alterne les mediums issus de l’artisanat comme la couture et la broderie, et ceux plus traditionnels de l’art comme la photographie, la vidéo ou la performance. Parcourant le monde et ses paysages, Claudia LOSI réalise des cartographies. Du plus petit détail de l’espace naturel comme les lichens, elle s’empare de même du plus grand animal vivant, la baleine. Créant et réinventant de nouvelles mythologies, Claudia LOSI mêle réel et imaginaire, écologie et poésie dans des ½uvres qui racontent l’histoire du monde, sa complexité et sa beauté. Ses ½uvres, très souvent participatives, tentent de relier l’art au monde et à ses habitants tout en étant revendicatif. Certaines ½uvres de l’exposition peuvent heurter la sensibilité des visiteurs, notamment celle du jeune public.La Maréchalerie, Contemporary Art Center of énsa-v and Les Moulins, the research and artistic production centre founded by Lucy + Jorge ORTA, combine their respective exhibition and residency programs, and present the Women for Life project.Transdisciplinary, Women for Life aims to be a collective experience that questions our identities, their connections, and their place into the world. The artists Regina José GALINDO and Claudia LOSI, invited by Lucy + Jorge ORTA to the 2013 Les Moulins residency program, exhibit at La Maréchalerie a radical artistic practice that reflects their environmental, political and social commitments. The exhibition Women for Life designed as a work in progress laboratory, gathers ideas created during the residency, to reveal two distinct approaches of coming to terms with the complexity of the world around us. The artist Regina José Galindo (born in 1974 in Guatemala) is associated with the body art movement. Her work takes place in the field of performance. Using video in which the artist acts by mutilating herself facing the confusion of the spectator. By experiencing these injuries, Regina José Galindo fundamentally links Art and life, turning her body into an object of art. Thus, she’s not only a witness but takes part inherently at the same time at the history of her country. The art of Regina José Galindo is certainly violent, but alive. Her work is struggling desperately against the denial of the human being, its domination and sadism from which it suffers every day, especially for women. An act of resistance through poetry. The Art of Claudia LOSI reaches fields as different as science, nature and literature. Italian artist (born in 1971), she uses mediums such crafts, in sewing and embroidery, or more traditional ones such as photography, video and performance. Travelling the world and its landscapes, Claudia LOSI produces cartographies. From the smallest detail of a natural environment like lichens, she took even the largest living animal, the whale. Creating and reinventing new mythologies, Claudia LOSI mixes real and imaginary, ecology and poetry into works that tell the history of the world, its complexity and beauty. Her work, being participative, tries to connect art to the world and its inhabitants while taking the form of a protest.
